From West Berkshire Council – Market Street closure and bus routes

You may be aware from the traffic notices that have been placed around town that Market Street in Newbury will be closed from the 28th October for up to 5 weeks. This is a 24 hour/7 day a week closure. The extent of this closure will be from the junction of Mayors Lane to the junction of the access road into the council offices (off the mini roundabout).

This will affect Kennections services coming into Newbury town centre from the south of Newbury. Kennections 2 and 3 will be diverted over this period and Kennections 4 and 6 will not serve Newbury Railway Station for the duration. The final details of the arrangements are available at this link on the West Berkshire Council’s website – https://info.westberks.gov.uk/transportchanges.

I wanted to highlight that this will affect the morning buses dropping students off and ask if you could make them aware of changes to services that we will be in place during this time.

The morning route 3 service coming from in Hungerford & Kintbury will serve St George’s Avenue and Craven Road as normal (last scheduled stop Bleinham Road) then go down Rockingham Road and exit to Bartholomew Street via Enborne Road, head past Fair Close to St Johns Roundabout, it will serve Newbury Railway Station Stop W and then exit Link Road and continue on the normal route via St Johns roundabout. The service will not serve Newbury Wharf until it returns from Wash Common. Customers who board at Newbury Wharf should catch the service from outside Newbury Railway Station (St Nicholas School side).

The 4, & 6 services from the North of Newbury will depart Newbury Wharf exit onto the A339 Sainsbury’s roundabout by Bear Lane, then head down the A339 and along A343 (St Johns Road) to St Johns roundabout and continue on scheduled routes. They will not serve Cheap Street, Market Street, Bartholomew Street or Fair Close. Students can board the bus at the Wharf or at the temporary stop on the westbound side of the A343 (St Johns Road).

Notices will be going up at the relevant stops around the Town Centre later in the week. Any further updates to bus services will posted here – https://info.westberks.gov.uk/transportchanges
